Or, at least, those were the sort of descriptions I was expecting when I went to check the word.

Sadly, once I spelled it out, it turned out to be "chapeau," which is not a creature known for its lonely love howls sung tot he fool moon or its frenzied attacks on human eyeballs.n.

I love the idea of a "fool moon," and I thought your mondegreen (aka oronym) original would be "chuppah", the ceremonial awning under which Jews marry.

Originally, "fool moon" was a typo which I began to correct, and then said, No, wait, that isn't really a typo.
