This past weekend was my birthday weekend, which was awesome! How did you like those Perseid showers? Yes, I get celestial fireworks on my birthday every year!

I took Friday off from my internshIp so that I could sit in the living room and watch movies with Alexx, my favorite audio describer. We rewatched some scenes from Sandman that I want to write about, then watched "Lost City," starring Sandra Bullock.

Alexx gave me a small fog machine! You see, every year I bemoan the fact that I do not own a fog machine so that I can do Halloween right, and I usually follow this up with the comment that "they make really small, reasonably priced ones nowadays..."

Now I'm in the market for an authentic-looking labris.

Also on Saturday: my new PC arrived! A couple of weeks ago, we had a power outage which fried my old PC (yes, I had it on a surge protector and yes, I now have a new surge protector).

I wanted a small sized PC because my computer desk is in a really small space and the optimal shelf to place the PC on is exactly 11 1/2 inches wide.

Alexx set it up yesterday, but it runs really hot. The top is quite warm right now, and I didn't have it doing any jobs overnight.

A housemate suggested putting it on a stand to increase airflow from beneath and getting a small fan to aim at it.

Do folks have other suggestions? I'm including the PC's details below, in case they turn out to be relevant.

Case: Turemetal DP2
Processor: Intel i9-12900 (40,937)
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B660-I Gaming WiFi DDR5
DDR5 RAM: 64 GB Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 5600 MHz CL 40
Operating System SSD: Kingston Enterprise DC500R 2 TB SATA
Power Supply: 150 W PicoPSU Kit
Bending Correction Frame: Thermalright LGA1700-BCF
Operating System: Windows 10 Home Edition

Today was the first day in the New Year that I felt I had the energy to clean, so the aerye got a good sweeping/dustbusting, and various piles of CDs and books got shelved. A small pile of Amazon boxes leftover from the holidays were disposed of, and this opened up the path to the bookcase in the corner that I hadn't actually been able to get to since about, uh, Halloween.

There are still piles of books about, but most of those can't be moved along to the permanent shelves until my new braille labeler shows up. I ordered it two weeks ago, but products for the disabled are the only consumer goods which basically take your order and then don't allow for any Web interface method to check on your order until hey presto, it just shows up one day.
It's not like us blind people have anything to do other than sit in the dark listening to our Bibles on tape because we're totally not evil.

I think I'll start signing my name like that, you know, like some people show off their affiliation to the Royal Society or the Jesuits: Kestrell, T.N.E.

And speaking of T.N.E., Edgar's raven has flown the coop again. You wouldn't think a plastic bird could get very far, what with having those nonmoving plastic wings and all, but I suppose that there's a reason ravens are trickster figures.

Oh, yeah, and I hung up my Slytherin dress robes which had been living at E.'s apartment since May. It must be that --and the slight singey smell of snark in the air --which makes the aerye feel all homey again.
