Re: my webpage on GitHub: What does it mean "Echo is on"?

When I try to look at kestrell7.github.io all I hear is Jaws saying "Echo is on." Over the past week I've been learning some Git bash commands using Coursera and bitbucket, and I'm wondering if something got reset somehow?

My older kestrell13.github.io website, which I haven't updated in over a week, is still there and sounds okay.

What does echo on GitHub refer to?

When I load that page I see the characters "ECHO is on".

When I view source it's just those characters plus a blank line.

I think when I went to upload the new page using the Windows command prompt, something got scrambled or turned on, but the class instructor is taking a day off to be outside, which I don't lame her, but I will continue to exist in confusion.

One thing I did figure out is that one reason the GitHub web interface looked different was that the Git Desktop, which I initially installed a month ago and decided wasn't accessible, had kicked in or interacted with the web interface. I uninstalled that and the original web interface came back, so at least all the documentation I figured out is still viable.

One problem is that "echo" relates to a lot of different technologies, companies, and, even sticking to computer languages, works differently depending n what you are using, so there are a gazillion search results and none of them apply to web pages as far as I can figure out.

I'm going to give up and go to bed with a book and maybe a cookie or two...

Oo, I love gingerbread, and none of the grocery services that deliver have it. I need to find a recipe I can use in my bread machine.

If I find one I'll send it along.

Mine is gluten free and basically "brownies except no chocolate and tons of ginger." It's well received even by people who eat wheat, and does require a stand mixer.

I have been having severe spells of dizziness/nauseau over the past few months, always after dinner, so I suspect it is something I am eating, though my diet hasn't changed in years. Right now I'm checking if it is some kinds of meat/sausage, though bacon is fine, and/or cheese. Grains, potatoes, breads, fruit, veggies, yogurt, are all fine. I am eating a lot of potatoes and yogurt, though not together. I'm also drinking a lot of chamomile and ginger tea. Argh. Anyway, I'm trying to find ways of upping my ginger intake.

The source of that page agrees--all it says is "ECHO is on". So, yeah I'm going to guess something got overwritten somewhere. (I wonder--do the dev tools built into Firefox and Chrome work at all for you? Press F12 to use them or turn them back off again; it opens extra panes that let you do things like see the source code of any web page.)

You are my hero of the day! (but it's kind of late, so you can still be my hero tomorrow).

I was trying to remember how to view the source, which is really stupid, because it's right there on the menus, but the instructor gave an alternative description which was a lot mroe complicated and which I totally failed to figure out.

Anyway, I thought the echo message was happening on the GitHub end, but no, obviously something got overwritten in my index file at some point.

I can fix that.

I just checked it out myself. Same here. I don't know what it means, as I'm not a Github user very much except to file complaints or kudos about GAIASky.

Thanks anyway, someone gave me the clue I needed, which was actually something I should have checked earlier, but was also having weird interface issues.
