Spring cleaning

I started slow this weekend with decluttering the bookcase that holds my prescriptions and tins, but today is the day I vanquish the closet.

I have this very teeny closet that's really more like a demi-closet. Still, it holds an amazing amount of stuff.

Adult Kestrell says: Let's be reasonable, Kestrell: you don't really need a hundred pairs of warm winter socks.

Inner Kestrell: Yes, yes, I do! Fimbulwinter could happen at any time if the frost giants win! Both Kestrells are impressed that Alexa knows how to spell "Fimbulwinter."

Given that you're digging in to the task, you have no reason to waste time reading an excellent Metafilter discussion of new framings of procrastination. I sure liked it while not writing several posts.

Oh, but the spring cleaning is procrastinating writing a paperr on creating accessible Alexa games. However, there was a snafu with the registration for the MIT conference, so I won't actually be presenting that paper, but I still feel as if I need to write it before I can clear the slate and move on to the next project.

Okay, back to the closet...

Yes, but there is still the hard part of deciding what to put in the paper and what to leave out, since I have all these things I want to say and did all this research. I think I am the only person who enjoys writing outlines, since it gives me specific points to hit and paragraphs to put in order.

Also, I'm beginning to find some patches of floor, but I've also found the secret stash of backup winter socks, just in case I ran out.

(I always wear compression socks, so any wooliness means an extra layer, which could mean two different shoe sizes, which I don't have any issue with, because I'm a shoe demon. But.)

I wear little white cotton ankle socks, which I put on after putting on lotion. I haven't really been a shoe demon for a few years, since I discovered that all I want for the most part is a really comfortable pair of black suede/leather ankle boots with little to no heel, a pair of black Keds, and my sheepskin-lined suede slippers. I have a pair of flip-flops for around the house in the summer, but I don't like wearing things that leave my toes exposed when I go out. I had these amazing neon-colored water shoes a few years back, but I've never found a pair that are quite as bright and comfy.

All black shoes! What a brilliant idea, resulting in one fewer wardrobe choice.

Plus they last longer without looking as scruffy as light-colored shoes. Also, since I have fewer pairs of shoes, I let myself splurge a little more on boots I like. And they go with my rake silk shirt/vest/top hat outfits.
