MIT Technology Review: What's with the new inaccessible format?

Suddenly this week I can't access MIT Technology Review articles with my screen reader. I asked Alexx what was going on, and he said it's a new popup format.

Not sure if others aren't seeing what I'm not seeing--I'm using Jaws with Chrome--but here is a sample

Yep, they're popping a new frame where you see the "read more" links--those are short takes, and they're free.

The "read full article" links open new windows, and also increment the TechReview paywall.

Fuckers--MIT knows how to do it right.

I was thnking of actually subscribing tot he online version of Tech Review: is this popup format going to be there even if I paid for it? Or is it just a paywall barrier?

...and I can't tell from my experience. (Despite my swagger I only know enough HTML to make ugly DW posts, and no Javascript.)

*sigh* It feels as if I am spending a lot of time lately researching and advocating for online accessibility that feels like I'm back in 2004, when what I really want to be doing is working on the research for the paper for an accessible virtual map that doesn't exist yet. Alexx is currently setting up my new laptop, which I got because of the nonuseful ebook reader.

Apologies for whining, but I'm sure you are familiar with those days when you don't want to be an advocate, you just want to do the stuff that started out on your original to do list.

I enjoy a fine whine, and "those days" sometimes feel like those years.

Good news: less TR means more time for the intriguing paper?

True: perhaps it is a sign to stop reading online articles and write the damn paper. And by tomorrow I will have my shiny new Del laptop up and running--another sign. I'm calling this a day.
