kestrellI understand that it is nesting season, and I'm okay with you choosing my aerie as the site for your home.
What I am not okay with is the constant tapping and scrabbling, which I can only guess is the bird equivalent of redecorating.

Date: 2016-03-17 12:17 am (UTC)I lived next to this guy who wanted to be an urban farmer, long before it was cool, and in a totally half-assed sort of way. He ended up with three roosters and one hen, and a goose that decided the hen belonged to him. So these henless chickens has lots of time on their hands, wings, whatever, and it turns out that they could fly over the fence into my yard, but were incapable of getting up a second time to return to their own yard.
Bottom line, yes, roosters crow at dawn. They also crow any other time of the day or night, but once in a 24-hour cycle, it happens to be dawn.
Also, I regretted every day of the three years I was a vegetarian.

My sister's family lives on a farm, and they raise chickens, among other things. She has to drive over an hour each way to work, and she starts work early, too. She normally gets up around 5-5:30 am, and is on the road before 6....but one of the roosters decided that it was going to crow at around 4:30! And not only that, but it would do it in the tree right beside her bedroom window!

But I have begun to knock on the wall and yell at it when it's quiet and it wants to sleep. Yes, I am being passive aggressive with a bird.

Date: 2016-03-17 10:38 am (UTC)A good suggestion, but would the sticky tape also catch lots of insects, which would attract more birds?
Also, I live on the attic floor, and the space the birds are in is next to my window, so it's a spot that difficult for me to reach.
We're supposed to get some work done on the outside of the house, so I will point that spot out to the contractors, who will probably show up after nesting season.

One of the anti-pigeon products sold in Chicago is a sticky substance that's also used to trap inchworms on tree trunks. Pigeons are strong enough to escape from it, but they don't like having that stuff on their feet. I suppose you could try to leave the tape sticky side up and thus render the area unattractive for walking on? Which probably works better for pigeons than other birds.
