MIT Ignobles this Saturday
Sep. 21st, 2012 02:01 pmKes: I expect that the phrase "think theremins shoved inside of frog hand-puppets).that's" will be haunting me for days.
From the e-mail announcement:
The 2012 Ig Nobel Prizes were awarded last night at the 22nd First Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony in Harvard's Sanders Theater. For your enjoyment, We've listed the award winners below.
And tomorrow you can see many of this year's honored winners attempt to explain themselves at:
THE IG INFORMAL LECTURES at MIT
Saturday, September 22nd at 1:00 pm.
MIT 10-250, 222 Memorial Drive

The Ig Nobel Prizes honor people whose achievements have made people LAUGH, and then made them THINK. Ten prizes are given to people who have done remarkable things, some of them admirable, some perhaps...otherwise. We invite the winners to MIT and give them five minutes to describe and/or defend their work; then respond to questions from the audience. Here's your chance to chat with an Ig Nobel Laureate!
This year we'll also be joined by some memorable winners from the past including Dr. Richard A Gustafson who was honored in 1994 for his co-authored paper, "Failure of Electric Shock Treatment for Rattlesnake Envenomation," published in the "Annals of Emergency Medicine." With pictures please! We'll also be treated to a special musical performance by "KEROMIN, the amazing FROGS" (think theremins shoved inside of frog hand-puppets). And that's not even the strangest thing you're likely to see!
This event is FREE, and no advance tickets are required.
Because of events surrounding the inauguration of the new MIT president this weekend, we expect parking will be especially difficult this year. Please consider taking public transit. This map shows the Kendall/MIT subway stop in relation to our event location:
