Misheard words

Okay, so I was a bit disappointed to find out that what I read as _The Official Llamas Guide_ was actually about natural birth, not the smart and fuzzy critters from the Andes, but really, _French Maid Simple_ is a book I think many people other than myself would be interested in reading--a sort of "Blood Simple" with French maids, n'est ce pas?

Since I got sick (and maybe had a brain injury at the same time) how I read has changed. Before it was all about the shapes of the letters -- I'd read several lines at a time. Basically a completely visual experience.

Now I read aloud (but silently) to myself, word-by-word, even as I'm typing this comment. I coordinate the visual, the oral, (and the kinesthetic, when writing).

So with your joke, I subvocalized "yamas" a couple times. Then I thought, hmm, bet the speech reader doesn't have a dictionary entry for "yamas." Then I tried to become one with the mind of the vocoder and heard "la maz."
