GIrls in my traditional Italian-American family were supposed to be femmy, not smart--I was force fed Malibu Barbie and other things very pink and normal. My kind of mad science was drawing horror movie monsters and gothic family trees and then adding in short narratives about which was a mad scientist, cute boy whose babysitters kept disappearing mysteriously, etc.
