A little of the syrup does go a long way, and I usually end up pouring some of it down the sink, but you could probably also make up a plain sugar syrup and add some other tropical fruit flavoring, like pineapple or mango, according to our preference. Weve been tweaking this recipe for years. The original recipe used lemon instead of lime, but we like lime better, so we decided to try that this year, and then had to tweak the rum, which is sweet, to balance out the juices, which are tart. You want to be sparing with the sugary syrup though, because it can easily tip over into too sweet. Our first batch, the elements didnt quite blend, but the second batch, they suddently worked together.
