The first place that I discovered real pralines was a barbecue place in upstate NY run by a man from Texas-Louisiana, whose mother taught him to cook, so I don't find the connection that weird. My impression is that hot sauce stores based in the South are the equivalent of our own spice shops, and you are going to find sweet and well as savory.
Or maybe it's just proof that pralines are really addictive and people don't really need an excuse to make and eat them.
