The state of the military exoskeleton is still science fiction

Checking up on the status of the Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (TALOS), I found this article from earlier this year
https://taskandpurpose.com/talos-iron-man-suit-dead
and I'm struck by how integrated science fiction has become in talking about the design--I mean, Iron Man is mainstream media now, but Starship Troopers is old school. Anyway, the military exoskeleton is one of my favorite military/disability/science ficion intersections, but I'm kind of amused that the military can't get its devices to work with each other, either.

That's a great catch.

I love that the "coming next" was "DARPA reinvented the wheel."

I also love that the article is full of reaction GIFs from Marvel movies.

Also, the "exowarrior" arms race with the Russians!

I don't know if that's actually bad news for the world or not where the TALOS project is concerned.

And you can be damn sure that Stark read his Heinlein at some point. Comics, MCU, whatever version of the character you care to name.

Adam Savage of Mythbusters has a new show "Savage Builds" and his first episode is making an iron man suit that is resistant to bullets, bombs, AND can fly. Spoiler: it works. No surprises that there are some conditions inherent in that statement. I think it's on Discovery's streaming service; we watched it a few days ago.
