Oo, thanks! I'm doing a bit of linking my new paper to items I mentioned in my thesis, and this is one of the stories I referenced. How do you find these sources? I've been researching disability and technology for a couple of mnths, and totally missed this.
I heard about it from the SDS listserv, which one must be an SDS $member to read--rest assured I'll flag up anything relevant from now on.
Many items get forwarded to sds-discuss from two other no-pay mailing lists, and both got some messages about the Catalyst issue.
Disability Studies in the Humanities aka ds-hum, but you need to subscribe. (I'm really old-school: I subscribe to digest, then visit the web site if anything intrigues.)
I used to be on a couple of disability studies in the humanities lists when I was in grad school, but I'm just not up for handling that much email. I know there is a one a day option, but that takes up even more time when you have to read through it with a screen reader. So, yes, please, I would appreciate it if I could outsource this to you. I don't even read that much social media, but Alexx reads me highlights from Facebook and Twitter while we're having dinner.
Well, as I understood the article you linked, the point is not so much that women should give handjobs, as to reveal, by manifesting the essential phallicism of the device, that gamers of all sexes, including women, have been giving them all along.
this is one of those areas where my thought patterns have taken a different path: I think of joysticks as controllers for people with mobility issues. Also, my concept of the touchpad is being readjusted since my latest TTS setup insists on pronouncing touchpad something more like "tushpad." Not necessarily a negative, but it does influence one's sense of the semiotics of hardware.
Nope

The other big source is the disability-research listserv from Leeds UK--their archive is open access without a password
