Setup for cooling my new mini-PC

When I bought these items, I really wasn't sure what would work and what would fit on a *really* small shelf, so I bought the cheapest items that also had positive reviews.

Amazingly, after only one day, my mini-PC (her name is Hermia, because I give all my computer female names from Greek mythology) is actually cool to the touch, and everything fits compactly on a shelf that is 11 1/2 inches wide (Hermia is only 2 inches high). In addition, I spent less than $25 on these two items, and both of these items are often on sale on Amazon.

The items names and links to Amazon pages are below, but here are descriptions:

1. The tower stand looks like a highly perforated metal cookie sheet on adjustable legs. It's very solid and could definitely handle a much larger PC, monitor, or whatever.
2. The computer fan --which is actually two fans arranged on a bendable wire V which then attaches to a clamp --claims to swivel in all sorts of directions, and actually does. The clamp opens very wide, and two double-sided sticky pads are included for additional adhesiveness or to protect the finish on whatever you are clamping the fans to. There is a switch on the fans which you press to cycle through low/high/off, which makes adjusting the fans very accessible to a blind user. The fans do produce a low fan oscillating sound which sounds just like the fans on old-school computers, however you feel about that.

PUTORSEN Monitor Stand Riser with Vented Metal 3 Height Adjustable
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VB1PFR1?ref_=pe_386300_442715950_DDT_E_DDE_dt_1

Monitor Clip on Fan with 2 Fan Heads, 3 Speeds Office Desk fan USB Powered Cooling Fan with Sturdy Adjustable Clamp
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09XFSBHRR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

comments

Suggestions for cooling a new small PC that runs hot?

This past weekend was my birthday weekend, which was awesome! How did you like those Perseid showers? Yes, I get celestial fireworks on my birthday every year!

I took Friday off from my internshIp so that I could sit in the living room and watch movies with Alexx, my favorite audio describer. We rewatched some scenes from Sandman that I want to write about, then watched "Lost City," starring Sandra Bullock.

Alexx gave me a small fog machine! You see, every year I bemoan the fact that I do not own a fog machine so that I can do Halloween right, and I usually follow this up with the comment that "they make really small, reasonably priced ones nowadays..."

Now I'm in the market for an authentic-looking labris.

Also on Saturday: my new PC arrived! A couple of weeks ago, we had a power outage which fried my old PC (yes, I had it on a surge protector and yes, I now have a new surge protector).

I wanted a small sized PC because my computer desk is in a really small space and the optimal shelf to place the PC on is exactly 11 1/2 inches wide.

Alexx set it up yesterday, but it runs really hot. The top is quite warm right now, and I didn't have it doing any jobs overnight.

A housemate suggested putting it on a stand to increase airflow from beneath and getting a small fan to aim at it.

Do folks have other suggestions? I'm including the PC's details below, in case they turn out to be relevant.

Case: Turemetal DP2
Processor: Intel i9-12900 (40,937)
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B660-I Gaming WiFi DDR5
DDR5 RAM: 64 GB Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 5600 MHz CL 40
Operating System SSD: Kingston Enterprise DC500R 2 TB SATA
Power Supply: 150 W PicoPSU Kit
Bending Correction Frame: Thermalright LGA1700-BCF
Operating System: Windows 10 Home Edition

comments
